What is Silent Conferencing?

November 5, 2025

You know them, those events with multiple breakout sessions. A nice touch, but in large event halls this can quickly create a cacophony of sound. And you don’t want your visitors to be left with a headache after a few hours. duvall has a solution for this: silent conferencing.

With silent conferencing, we ensure that all your participants can listen to the sessions of their choice without the sound from all the breakout rooms being sent through the boxes. We capture the sound from each breakout and send it into the room via infrared or radio frequency. Participants can choose – very easily – via a receiver which breakout or speaker they want to listen to.

Why Silent Conferencing ?

We previously cited avoiding a cacophony of sound in the room. Silent sessions reduce stress and sound fatigue at trade shows and events. But there are a few other reasons why Silent Conferencing can be a solution for your event.

For example, our Silent Conferencing solution was used in rooms with a central stage that was split into several sections for certain sessions. A nice concept and very transparent. Without leaving their seats, participants can choose which presentation they want to listen to.

An audio solution for trade show booths: our silent conferencing systems are often used at trade shows. It is a simple and cost-effective way for exhibitors to communicate with a group of visitors, for example for product presentations or keynotes.

But the system is also suitable for tours in exhibition halls. For example, you can offer different “tracks” to visitors (including sales, tech, etc.).

Silent conferencing also reduces the carbon footprint of your event. For example, you need less PA equipment, which leads to lower power consumption and less transportation.

It is also easy to combine with simultaneous translation. We just need to add a few channels to the list and your silent meetings are also available with translation.

What solutions does duvall use for Silent Conferencing ?

Duvall offers two types of silent conferencing solutions: infrared distribution and DECT radio frequency. Each has its own specific advantages. Both solutions are perfectly scalable; for example, there is no maximum number of receivers. And both are easy-to-use: plug in headset, turn on, choose channel = done.

INFRARED

For this silent conferencing solution, the various audio channels are sent into the room via infrared emitters. The participants’ receivers pick up those signals and ensure that each speaker can hear them instantaneously.

The great advantage of infrared distribution is that infrared has virtually no interference. The sound is crystal clear. However, setting up and taking down the system is a bit more labor intensive: the infrared emitters must be strategically placed in each room and connected together. So for large event halls, this can take some time.

We particularly recommend this silent conferencing solution for small to medium-sized event venues where cabling may not be a problem. Or in locations where there is a lot of audio/radio frequency in the air, to avoid interference.

DECT RADIO FREQUENCY

Another silent conferencing service we offer is Televic Unite. This technology uses an Access Point or handheld microphones/bodypacks that send audio signals to participants’ receivers via DECT-RF.

The advantage of Televic Unite is that this system works perfectly in large halls or even stadiums. The Access Point and microphone transmitters have a range of up to 300 meters. Setup and tear down is significantly faster and there is less or no cabling involved.

Another advantage is that the system also uses handheld microphones and bodypack transmitters with headset microphones. That way, for this silent conferencing solution, you don’t need to provide audio equipment such as mixing tables and microphones. A saving in material and personnel costs.

The system can also be rented by the set. We configure the equipment and you then pick it up or have it delivered to the event location. It couldn’t be simpler.

So is this silent conferencing technology more susceptible to interference? Televic Unite has put a stop to that. The DECT radio frequency is barely used anymore. To avoid interference, the Unite system always looks for the best bands for the channels. That dynamic scanning allows us to exclude frequency.

How does duvall provide Silent Conferencing at my event?

Would you like to have silent conferencing at your event? Then together we will look for the best solution. Together we look at the size of the room, the number of visitors and the different rooms/audio signals. On this basis, we offer silent conferencing via infrared or Televic Unite.

The day before the event, our technicians set up the equipment. We have the resources to provide both audio and distribution. After setup, all channels and audio signals are thoroughly tested and everything is ready for the start of your event.

During the event, we provide one or more technicians for technical permanence. They assist you, the participants and the speaker with advice and assistance. After the event, we neatly dismantle everything.
